HEISSNER Underwater Filters

Compact all-in-one solutions for small ponds and water features

Underwater filters represent the most discreet solution for water purification in garden ponds. As the entire system, including the pump and UVC clarifier, is positioned directly on the pond floor, no hoses or housings remain visible at the water’s edge. These all-in-one units are particularly ideal for pre-formed ponds, small ornamental pools, and water features, as they combine mechanical cleaning, biological filtration, and decorative fountains in a single compact device.

The HEISSNER range features reliable underwater filter systems that are ready for immediate use, ensuring crystal-clear water and providing essential aeration through integrated fountain displays.

What is an underwater filter?
An underwater filter is a compact, all-in-one system that is completely submerged in the pond. It combines filter media, a pond pump, and a UVC clarifier within a single housing. Often, a telescopic riser for water features is integrated, allowing the device to provide both filtration and decoration simultaneously.

Which ponds are best suited for an underwater filter?

  • Small garden ponds and pre-formed basins (up to approx. 5,000 litres)
  • Ornamental ponds with little to no fish stocking
  • Patio ponds and architectural water features
  • Ponds where no equipment should be visible on the bank

What are the advantages of an underwater filter?

  • Invisible: The unit disappears completely beneath the water's surface.
  • Simple Installation: Only a single power cable is required.
  • Multifunctional: Filtration, algae control (UVC), and water features in one.
  • Space-saving: No need for external filter housings on the pond edge.

How deep should an underwater filter be placed?
The filter should be placed horizontally on the pond floor. Ensure that the telescopic riser for the fountain extends above the water surface. In very deep ponds, the filter can be elevated on a plinth (e.g., a brick) to make maintenance easier.

How often does an underwater filter need cleaning?
Cleaning is only necessary when the performance of the water feature noticeably diminishes. When this happens, simply open the housing and rinse away the accumulated coarse debris and mechanical filter media using pond water.
