Which is the best pressure washer for me?
The "best" pressure washer depends on your intended use and technical requirements. Key factors include pressure output (bar), water flow rate (l/h), included accessories, and the size of the area to be cleaned.
For guidance, Kärcher offers different performance classes within the well-known K-Series:
- K2 – Entry-level models for light cleaning tasks such as bikes or garden furniture
- K3 – For occasional cleaning tasks around the home
- K4 – Versatile machines for patios, cars, and medium-sized areas
- K5 – Powerful units for regular use and larger surfaces
- K7 – Premium performance for intensive cleaning, large patios, or driveways
Which pressure washer should I buy?
When purchasing a pressure washer, you will need to consider the following criteria:
- Pressure output (bar)
- Water flow rate (litres per hour)
- Size of the area to be cleaned
- Frequency of use
- Available accessories for specific applications
For simple cleaning jobs, entry-level models are perfectly adequate, while more powerful models are recommended for large areas or frequent use.
How much pressure (bar) do I actually need?
The ideal pressure depends entirely on the task at hand. Here is a quick guide to help you choose:
- 100–120 bar: perfect for light cleaning tasks, such as rinsing down bicycles and outdoor furniture.
- 120–140 bar: for cleaning the car, wooden fencing and patio.
- 140–180 bar: larger stone surfaces, driveways or stubborn grime
In addition to the pressure, the water flow rate (l/h) is also important, as it determines how quickly you can clean larger areas.
How does a pressure washer work?
At its core, a pressure washer is a high-powered water pump driven by an electric motor. The motor highly compresses the water, significantly increasing its pressure. This pressurised water is then fed through a reinforced high-pressure hose to the trigger gun.
When you pull the trigger, the water is forced through a specialised nozzle at incredible speed. This concentrated jet of water provides the mechanical force needed to strip away stubborn grime, moss, algae, and deep-seated dirt from surfaces. By switching between different nozzles or attachments, you can adjust the force of the water jet to suit the specific task and surface.
