HEISSNER Coverings & pond nets

For garden ponds, fish ponds, and pre-formed ponds

Pond covers and nets are effective tools for protecting your garden pond from leaves, dirt, and other external elements. In autumn, fine-mesh pond nets are particularly useful as they prevent leaves from falling into the water, sinking, and increasing the nutrient load. This helps to prevent algae growth and reduces the burden on your filter and pump systems.

Pond covers are mainly used during seasonal shutdowns, construction, maintenance work, or to temporarily protect pond basins and pre-formed ponds. They help guard against contamination, reduce evaporation, and contribute to stabilising water quality.

The HEISSNER product range includes robust, weather-resistant solutions for small ornamental ponds up to larger garden ponds - easy to assemble and long-lasting.

What are the benefits of a pond net?
A pond net keeps leaves, blossoms, twigs, and coarse debris out of the water. This means:

  • The organic load decreases
  • This reduces sludge formation at the bottom of the pond.
  • Algae growth is indirectly reduced.
  • The maintenance effort remains significantly lower

The use of a leaf protection net is particularly recommended in autumn.

When should you cover the pond?
A cover is advisable:

  • in autumn during heavy leaf fall
  • in case of prolonged absence
  • during construction or maintenance work
  • during temporary shutdown of the pond

A stable, tight fastening with sufficient distance to the water surface is important.

Are tarpaulin covers winterproof?
High-quality tarpaulins are UV and weather resistant. However, they should:

  • to be attached without tension
  • do not accumulate water or snow load
  • be checked regularly

For continuous winter use, a combination with pond aeration or an ice preventer (depending on the pond type) is recommended. For most garden ponds, a fine-mesh pond net in autumn is the most effective and simplest protective measure. Covers are also suitable for special situations or seasonal closures – for less maintenance and consistently stable water quality.
