Choosing the right pond liner – PVC or EPDM?
The appropriate pond liner depends on the pond dimensions, the substrate, and the desired lifespan.

  • PVC pond liners are a common choice for small to medium-sized garden ponds and simple shapes.
  • EPDM pond liners are particularly suitable for large ponds, koi ponds, and long-term installations, as they are highly elastic and durable.

EPDM is frequently recommended when high flexibility, long-term durability, and sustained UV resistance are priorities.

What is the lifespan of a pond liner?
The service life depends primarily on the material and the installation method:

  • PVC pond liners: typically 10–20 years
  • EPDM pond liners: often 30 years or more

A level, rock-free substrate can significantly increase the life of the pond liner.
